MoonPay Inc. said Caroline Pham, the acting chairman of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, will join the crypto payments firm as its chief legal officer.
Pham will “guide our next chapter of growth + compliance excellence following the conclusion of her role as Acting Chairman,” MoonPay said in a post on X. The company enables users to convert US dollars or other currency into digital assets.
The move was previously reported by Forbes.
Asked about the role, a spokesperson for the CFTC referred back to Pham’s previous remarks about planning to re-enter the private sector once a permanent chairman is confirmed.
Pham was tapped by Trump to temporarily lead the CFTC in January. Since then, the regulator has seen a ramp up in prediction markets, taken steps to welcome offshore crypto firms back to the US and offered an “enforcement sprint” to businesses in the agency’s crosshairs, among other issues.
President Donald Trump picked Michael Selig to serve as permanent CFTC chairman but he has yet to be confirmed by the US Senate. A vote on his nomination could occur Thursday before lawmakers leave Washington for the holidays.
