The US Treasury Department on Friday announced it would proceed with its sales of Treasury bills and coupons in December as previously scheduled.
The announcement follows President Donald Trump’s order to close the federal government on Christmas Eve and the day after Christmas.
“Treasury confirms that it will maintain its anticipated schedule for auctions and announcements on Wednesday, December 24, 2025,” the department said in a statement. “Maturities and settlements on Friday, December 26, 2025, are also not affected by the closure.”
Trump on Thursday said he was designating the days before and after Christmas as federal holidays for 2025. The move introduced some confusion in the financial world as questions swirled around whether markets would be open and bond auctions would proceed.
Treasury’s announcement Friday puts to rest some of those questions. The New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq Inc. said Thursday they wouldn’t alter their trading schedules on the 24 or the 26.
Additionally, the Federal Reserve said in a post on X bank payments and cash services will be open and operating on their regular schedules, but daily and weekly statistical releases will be published on the next business day, Monday, Dec. 29.
