3M Texans Hit by Cyberattack Tied to Hunting, Fishing Licenses

Source: Inc.

A massive data breach has exposed the personal information of more than 3 million drivers, hunters, and fishers involving the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) license system vendor that handles the sale of hunting and fishing licenses. The hack, detected by Texas Cyber Command, may have culled “driver license information, passport numbers (if provided), email addresses, phone numbers, and residential addresses” of 3,087,721 Texans, according to the state agency. It ranks as the largest data breach—by far—reported in Texas this year. Parks and Wildlife manages and preserves more than 80 state parks, natural areas, and historic sites. Despite the extensive hack, sales of state fishing and hunting licenses will begin on schedule on Aug. 15. Full Story
