Inpex executive: Confirm protected industrial action has been notified to continue at Ichthys LNG to 23 June 2026 and we are planning accordingly
Protected industrial action at Inpex Corp’s Ichthys liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities in Australia has been confirmed to continue until at least 23 June 2026, according to the company. The action, initiated by the Offshore Alliance union—which includes the Maritime Union of Australia, the Australian Workers’ Union, and the ETU—began on 1 June 2026 following failed negotiations over pay.
The union had previously served Inpex with a strike notice on 18 May 2026 after bargaining sessions did not meet key demands. Although the union had postponed planned strike action on 26 May 2026 due to progress in negotiations, it later escalated the dispute after Inpex had not adequately addressed its concerns.
Inpex has stated it is planning for the continuation of industrial action and has launched proceedings with the Fair Work Commission to address the situation. The outcome of these proceedings could influence the resolution of the dispute and the stability of LNG supply from the 9.3-million-metric-ton facility, which is a critical component of Australia’s energy exports.
