BYD Chairman and President Wang Chuanfu recently met with Shaanxi Provincial Party Secretary Zhao Yide and Governor Zhao Gang, continuing high-level engagements with provincial leaders since March 2026. This meeting follows similar interactions in at least five other provinces, reflecting Wang’s active role in fostering regional partnerships and expanding BYD’s influence across China.

Wang, who has been at the helm of BYD since its founding in 1995, has consistently emphasized technological innovation and strategic expansion. Under his leadership, BYD has transitioned from a battery manufacturer to a global leader in new energy vehicles (NEVs), with a focus on electric vehicles and sustainable mobility solutions. The company ceased production of internal combustion engine vehicles in 2022, and by October 2025, it had produced its 14 millionth NEV.

The recent meeting with Shaanxi officials aligns with BYD’s broader strategy to strengthen its domestic footprint while preparing for international growth. Wang has previously outlined ambitious goals, including surpassing Toyota as largest automaker by 2030. To achieve this, BYD plans to leverage breakthrough battery technologies, such as its Blade Battery, and accelerate overseas expansion.

Wang’s engagements with provincial leaders also highlight the importance of government collaboration in supporting infrastructure development and policy alignment for the NEV industry. As BYD continues to scale production and refine its technological offerings, these interactions underscore the company’s strategic approach to navigating both domestic and global markets.
