Apple just upgraded the Vision Pro with an M5 chip and new strap
TL;DR
Apple has upgraded the Vision Pro with an M5 chip for faster processing, improved graphics, and longer battery life, plus a new Dual Knit Strap for comfort. The M5 model launches October 22nd at $3,499, while the strap is sold separately for $99.

Apple just revealed that the Vision Pro headset is getting upgraded to an M5 chip. There’s also a new strap called the Dual Knit Band, which the company says will “help users achieve an even more comfortable fit.”
The M5 headsets will be available starting October 22nd for the same $3,499. But aside from the chip upgrade, nothing about the Vision Pro’s design has changed. Instead, Apple’s press release claims that the M5 chip will bring faster processing and more detailed image rendering. Specifically, the M5 renders 10 percent more pixels on the OLED displays and can increase refresh rates up to 120Hz. Previously it maxed out at 100Hz. As for processing, AI-powered features like a Persona or spatial photos are up to 50 percent faster. Battery life is also improved by about 30 minutes, up to 2.5 hours of general use and three hours of video playback.

The Dual Knit Band appears to be a hybrid of the Solo Knit and the Dual Loop Band. It’ll come in three sizes: small, medium, and large. There’s also a dial that allows you to adjust tightness on the side. It’s available separately for $99, and works with the original M2 Vision Pro.
The original Vision Pro launched in early 2024 with an older M2 chip, so it makes sense that Apple might want more powerful specs as it expands the device’s capabilities. Earlier this month, it announced live immersive sports on the device. The update also comes amid reports that Apple is switching gears toward smart glasses, as opposed to full-blown headsets like the Vision Pro. The timing of the update is also notable, given that Samsung will officially launch its Project Moohan competitor next week on October 21st.
