French utility EDF commits EUR 80 million for air cooling upgrades at schools and leisure centres

French utility EDF has announced a EUR 240 million initiative to support the transition to electric solutions across various sectors, including EUR 80 million allocated for the installation of new electricity-consuming industries in France. This funding is part of a broader strategy to drive electrification and reduce reliance on fossil fuels. The initiative includes support for heat pumps, electric heavy goods vehicles, and the development of charging infrastructure for long-distance electric trucks. Additionally, EDF will provide subsidies for low-income households to install heat pumps, replacing gas or oil boilers. The company emphasized that these efforts align with its long-term commitment to supplying competitive, low-carbon electricity to French consumers. EDF’s financial commitment also includes EUR 30 million in purchase subsidies for transport operators converting diesel trucks to electric models and EUR 50 million for installation of 180 charging stations across mainland France. The move comes amid a challenging market environment, with EDF reporting revenue and operating profit decline in 2025.
