Is it possible to get a job in cybersecurity without any expensive certs?

I worked for 9 months as a Node.js developer and I have a bachelor's degree in computer engineering. Now I want to switch to cybersecurity domain. I searched and I found so many certs is out there and most of them are expensive (I live in a highly sanctioned country and it's difficult for me to pay) So I decided to start with CompTIA Network+ by studying the official book and watching popular free courses like Professor Messer videos on youtube and give up on getting the degree. I wanted to know if this is ok or I need to acquire some certificates? And if so, which certificates are necessary?
