On January 8, media reports, citing sources familiar with the matter, revealed that Anthropic, the developer of the chatbot Claude, plans to raise $10 billion at a pre-money valuation of $350 billion, almost double its valuation four months ago.
Sources familiar with the matter say that Singapore's sovereign wealth fund GIC and Coatue Management are planning to lead this funding round. This is the third "mega-funding" in the past year, following a $13 billion investment in September last year that valued the company at $183 billion. The round is expected to close in the coming weeks, but the final deal size may still change.
One source familiar with the matter said the new funding comes on top of the additional $15 billion that Nvidia and Microsoft plan to invest in the OpenAI rival. As part of the partnership, Anthropic said it will purchase $30 billion worth of computing power from Microsoft Azure, which will run on Nvidia's AI systems.
