NVIDIA’s Huang: “Computing Demand Is Growing Exponentially”
NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang highlighted a surge in demand for AI computing in 2025, driven by advancements in artificial intelligence models transitioning from basic query resolution to complex reasoning tasks. Speaking on CNBC’s Squawk Box, Huang noted that computing demand has “gone up substantially” over the past six months, with AI models consuming and generating exponential growth in both computational power and user demand.
Huang attributed this trend to the increasing effectiveness of AI systems, stating, “The AIs are smart enough that everybody wants to use it,” creating a dual exponential dynamic of rising computational needs and adoption. This growth has fueled strong premarket gains for NVIDIA shares, reflecting investor confidence in the company’s leadership in AI chip development.
Central to this demand is NVIDIA’s Blackwell GPU, with Huang describing its demand as “really, really high,” signaling the start of a “new industrial revolution” in AI infrastructure. However, Huang also emphasized challenges in scaling energy infrastructure to support AI workloads. He cited NVIDIA’s $100 billion investment in OpenAI’s data center expansion, which aims to generate 10 gigawatts of compute capacity—equivalent to New York City’s peak summer demand. Huang warned that the U.S. risks lagging behind China in energy infrastructure development, urging accelerated investment in power generation, including natural gas and nuclear energy, to sustain AI growth.
While acknowledging OpenAI’s recent partnership with AMD, Huang distinguished NVIDIA’s collaboration with the AI lab as “very different,” emphasizing long-standing technical integration. He downplayed competitive concerns, noting the market’s capacity to accommodate multiple players as AI adoption expands.
Analysts suggest the AI chip market remains robust, with cloud providers and developers prioritizing infrastructure investments. As Huang described, the industry is navigating a “new buildout” phase, with demand for advanced computing hardware and energy solutions expected to remain critical drivers in the coming years.
