AMG Critical Materials N.V. buys Aura Technologie for EUR 10M

AMG Critical Materials N.V. Acquires Processing Technologies from Transformation Technologies Inc.

On February 5, 2024, AMG Critical Materials N.V. (Euronext Amsterdam: AMG) announced the acquisition of a suite of processing technologies and intellectual property (IP) from Transformation Technologies Inc. (TTI), a U.S.-based environmental technology firm. The transaction, part of AMG Vanadium's global strategic growth initiatives, aims to enhance AMG's capabilities in recycling oil refinery waste and advancing low-carbon solutions.

TTI's technology focuses on thermal treatment of spent catalysts and refinery waste, converting them into valuable byproducts. This complements AMG's existing expertise in spent catalyst processing and aligns with its mission to reduce carbon intensity across industrial sectors. Thomas Centa, President of AMG Vanadium, emphasized that the acquisition strengthens AMG's leadership in recycling refinery waste while improving operational efficiency and CO₂ reduction for its Shell & AMG Recycling joint venture.

TTI, formed in 2018 through the merger of three environmental technology companies, specializes in circular solutions for waste-to-energy and recyclable metals. Its technologies are designed to achieve zero-waste footprints, with a focus on green energy, green oil, and metal recycling markets in the Middle East and Asia. AMG and TTI will also collaborate on market development, leveraging TTI's experience in plant design and construction.

AMG, a global leader in critical materials and metallurgy, operates across 11 countries and employs approximately 3,500 people. Its Vanadium segment leads in recycling vanadium from oil refining residues, while its Lithium and Technologies segments address energy storage and CO₂ reduction in aerospace and industrial applications. The acquisition underscores AMG's strategy to expand its portfolio of sustainable technologies and strengthen its position in the transition to a low-carbon economy.

This move follows AMG's recent divestiture of its natural graphite business, reflecting a broader focus on core growth areas. The integration of TTI's IP is expected to enhance AMG's value proposition in the refining industry and support its long-term environmental and financial objectives.
