Personal information belonging to customers of insurer Prosura Pty Ltd has been obtained by a self-described "threat actor", who has threatened to leak the data unless they strike a deal with the company. The company, which also trades as Hiccup and sells insurance to cover accidents in rental cars in Australia and New Zealand, has shut down sales of new policies and its online self-service portal while it investigates. Prosura sells insurance through a related car rental comparison website, VroomVroomVroom, which has the same owner. A person claiming to have perpetrated the cyberattack said they breached Prosura's systems on New Year's Day in a "data breach that not only crippled its systems but also leaked all consumer information, including full names, email addresses, phone numbers, invoices, and much more".
