Norwegian defense company Kongsberg Gruppen ASA signed an agreement to buy US missile company Zone 5 Technologies LLC, which produces long-range strike and anti-drone missiles, for an undisclosed sum.

“The acquisition of Zone 5 marks a significant strategic move for Kongsberg,” Chief Executive Officer Geir Haoy said. “Zone 5 is at the forefront of developing affordable missiles to be produced in high numbers.”

Kongsberg, through its wholly-owned Defence & Aerospace unit, will own 90% of California-based Zone 5, while the management team will remain as minority shareholders, the Norwegian company said in a statement on Tuesday. The transaction is subject to regulatory approvals and after completion, Zone 5 will operate as an independent subsidiary.

Zone 5, which was founded in 2011, employs about 250 people and had revenue of more than $100 million in 2025. The company, which has “been profitable for many years,” offers a range of digitally engineered, low-cost missiles to enable affordable mass and precision strike engagements from a range of aircraft.

“Recent conflicts have demonstrated the critical role of high-volume defense capabilities in modern warfare,” Kongsberg said. “Such weapons are required both to defend against massive air drone attacks and to strike a wide range of adversary assets, necessary to create deterrence.”
