Minnesota County reports data affecting 83K+ people

Aitkin County Health and Human Services, the county government department in Aitkin County, Minn. that provides public assistance, health and social-service programs, disclosed a data breach that affected approximately 83,114 individuals in the U.S. From Apr. 7-8, cybercriminals gained unauthorized access to three county email accounts. The intrusion was discovered when a Health and Human Services employee's email account was found to be sending phishing emails. The county launched an investigation with third-party cybersecurity and data forensics consultants to understand the incident. The breach was disclosed to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services on Jun. 17 and Aitkin County posted a notice on its website. Full Story
