Expana raises forecast of EU 2026/27 rapeseed production to 20.3 mln t from 20.6 mln t last month
Expana, the European Union’s agricultural monitoring and forecasting body, has revised its forecast for EU rapeseed production in the 2026/27 season, raising the estimate to 20.3 million tonnes from 20.6 million tonnes projected last month[1]. The adjustment reflects updated assessments of crop conditions and planting areas across key EU member states. Despite the downward revision in the volume, the forecast still indicates a relatively stable production outlook compared to the previous year, which saw similar output levels.
The change in forecast highlights the ongoing volatility in EU rapeseed production, influenced by weather patterns, soil conditions, and policy developments. Analysts suggest that the revised projection could have implications for market prices and trade flows, particularly in the context of global supply dynamics and demand from the biodiesel sector.
The EU remains one of the world’s largest producers and consumers of rapeseed, with production concentrated in countries such as Germany, France, and Poland. Expana’s updated forecast will be closely monitored by traders, farmers, and policymakers as they assess the outlook for the coming harvest season.
