The outage at the country’s largest mobile carrier began to draw widespread attention around 12:30 p.m. Eastern and persisted into the evening, and reached a peak of more than 170,000 concurrent reports of disrupted service in the early afternoon Jan. 14, according to Downdetector, an outage-tracking site.
