Axios reporter cites US officials on US-Iran plan in an X post
A U.S.-Iran Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is expected to be finalized soon, according to Axios, which cited a U.S. official and diplomat. The agreement reportedly addresses key issues including the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz without tolls, sanctions relief contingent on Iranian compliance, and an extended ceasefire for 60 days, including in Lebanon. Additionally, the MoU sets the stage for nuclear negotiations on Iran's enriched uranium stockpile, pending a more detailed second agreement.
The MoU reportedly includes detailed provisions on nuclear matters and meets all U.S. requirements, according to the diplomat's confirmation. However, any concrete steps regarding Iran’s nuclear program would be contingent on the success of a subsequent, more comprehensive deal. The agreement is currently awaiting final approval before being electronically signed.
