Mercado Libre allegedly hit by ransomware attack

The Latin American e-commerce giant Mercado Libre is reported to have suffered a cyberattack. The ransomware group The Gentlemen, one of the most active at the moment, has included the Argentine company on its dark web leak site. The threat actor has not clarified what specific data it possesses or how it managed to obtain it. Mercado Libre, founded in 1997 by entrepreneur Marcos Galperin and used by millions of people, not only operates its well-known e-commerce marketplace but also has a tool called Mercado Pago and a logistics service known as Mercado Envíos. The company has a workforce of nearly 85,000 employees and operates in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, El Salvador, Uruguay, and Venezuela.
