Seacon: buy the two vessels for total $39.2 mln
Seacon Shipping Group Holdings has completed the acquisition of two vessels for a total consideration of $39.2 million, as part of its ongoing fleet optimization strategy. The vessels, which were previously under a bareboat charter, were acquired through a subsidiary, Seacon Hamburg, and are expected to enhance operational flexibility and capacity.
The acquisition follows a broader trend of fleet modernization, with the company recently announcing the purchase of six bulk carrier newbuild contracts for $198.6 million and the acquisition of seven small bulk carriers(https://www.bairdmaritime.com/shipping/dry-cargo/bulkers/seacon-shipping-acquires-six-bulk-carrier-newbuild-contracts-for-1986m) from Baltic Shipping for 63.7 million euros. These transactions reflect Seacon’s focus on replacing older vessels with newer, more efficient assets to improve competitiveness and attract business from larger market participants.
The company has stated that proceeds from recent vessel disposals, including a $37.5 million sale of a 2023-built bulk carrier, have been allocated toward fleet expansion and general working capital. This strategic approach aims to strengthen liquidity and support long-term growth objectives.
