Shipping companies across Europe have been hit by a widespread DDoS attack that has taken down multiple websites. "The (web) pages are down and our IT department is now working on solving the problem," said a spokesperson at Viking Line, a shipping company that provides cruise, cargo and passenger services mainly across the Baltic Sea. Shippax reports Viking Line also confirmed a data breach occurred via a subcontractor handling pre-order services for onboard purchases and reservations. A threat actor known as "bytetobreach" claimed responsibility on dark web forums, alleging they accessed a full passenger database—including vehicle registration plates—and payment transaction records linked to onboard services.
