France's defence procurement agency DGA says it has ordered multi-layer Aster/MICA VL version of SAMP/T NG system
France’s defence procurement agency, DGA, has confirmed the successful test-firing of the ASTER B1NT missile, a key component of the SAMP/T NG system, beyond 25 km in the summer of 2025. This development follows Denmark’s recent decision to procure the SAMP/T NG system, which integrates the ASTER missile family and the VL MICA system, as part of its multi-layered air and missile defence strategy. The system, developed through a joint effort between Italy and France, is designed to provide 360° protection in complex and contested environments, including against ballistic missiles, UAVs, and high-speed tactical threats.
The selection of the SAMP/T NG system by Denmark reinforces European interoperability within NATO and aligns with broader European defence initiatives such as the ReArm Europe Plan. Alongside the procurement of MISTRAL 3 and VL MICA, Denmark’s choice underscores its trust in MBDA’s integrated air defence solutions. The system’s rapid deployment and limited personnel requirements make it suitable for civilian and military applications. As MBDA expands production and strategic partnerships, the SAMP/T NG system is positioned to enhance European defence readiness and sovereignty.
