FIFA president: Trump will present the FIFA World Cup trophy to the winning team

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has confirmed that Trump will participate in the presentation of the FIFA World Cup trophy to the winning team at the 2026 final on July 19 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. During an appearance on "Fox & Friends," Infantino stated that Trump will join him in handing the trophy to the captain of the victorious team. This arrangement mirrors the format used during the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup final, where Trump assisted in presenting the trophy to Chelsea captain Reece James.

While it is customary for heads of state to attend such ceremonies, Trump's involvement has drawn attention due to his extended presence during the Club World Cup final, where he remained on stage as the team celebrated. FIFA has indicated that Trump will have discretion to decide whether to remain on stage during the World Cup trophy presentation.

The 2026 World Cup, co-hosted by the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, is expected to generate significant economic activity, with an estimated USD 40 billion in economic impact and the creation of 200,000 jobs. The event will feature 48 teams competing in 104 matches across 16 cities, marking the largest and most inclusive edition of the tournament to date.
